Sleepless in... Boone, North Carolina?

Late Saturday Evening June 1st - Lambert International Airport- St. Louis, Missouri The screeching of the wheels making contact with the tarmac jolted both Adam Ellis and Dawn McGill back to reality from their overseas flight back from Barcelona, Spain.  Adrenaline coursed through their veins as they disembarked the flight and followed the endless line of people into the Lambert International Airport terminal two… aka… the international terminal… and followed the signs to retrieve their luggage.

As the pair approached the vast luggage claim carousel, Dawn… who’d been walking a few steps in front of Adam in her usual confident stride with the occasional check over her shoulder to make sure Adam kept up with her… suddenly stopped in her tracks.  Adam, his mind elsewhere and walking through the terminal on autopilot, nearly ran her over.

“Adam,” she spoke with a voice that demanded attention and respect, her eyes locking onto his.  “First off, I want to say I’m very proud of you.  You did the work.  You went to Barcelona and you did what you needed to do.  You wrestled your ass off and because of that… even with Alexei Ruslan sticking his nose into the match… you beat Kenny Freeman.”

Adam’s eyes met hers, her affirmation fueling his determination.

“Now,” Dawn continued.  “Do you think you can do it again when you face Harley Walker again?  Or are you going to call it a day in PRIME and focus on Appalachian Mountain Championship Wrestling?  What’s it going to be kid?”

Adam straightened his posture and his eyes sharpened as they made contact with Dawn’s.  “I’m going to do whatever it takes, Dawn… whatever it takes.”

“Good.” Dawn nodded in approval before motioning for them to continue on to the luggage area with a subtle flick of her wrist.

Saturday June 8th – Peoria Civic Center / Peoria, IL- Backstage at a MVW House Show “EMM-VEE-DUBYA… EMM-VEE-DUBYA…” the crowd inside the Peoria Civic Center chanted over and over.

Draped in a form-fitting, crimson sequined dress that shimmered with each move, MVW’s brunette haired ring announcer Heather Cooper lifted the microphone with a sultry smile.

"Ladies and gentlemen!  Tonight’s first match will be," she began, her voice rising to cue the enthusiastic crowd.

"ONE FALL!" the fans roared in unison, a tradition as old as the sport itself.

Heather's brown eyes sparkled as she continued, "Introducing first…”

The solemn, orchestral strains of the "State Song of the USSR" filled the arena, a sea of red washed over the video screen. The bold yellow letters spelling out "THE SOVIET BLOC" stood stark against the fluttering Soviet flag backdrop, heralding the arrival of the fearsome trio. A wave of red flags unfurled throughout the arena, each one bearing the unmistakable hammer and sickle emblem of the Soviet Union.

“Hailing from the former Soviet Union,” Heather bellowed into the microphone, “and accompanied by their handler, Agent Valya… Major Svetlana Kovaleski… Nikita Kalashnik…”

Out from behind the curtains emerged the fearsome trio.  First came Major Svetlana Kovaleski, her tall and imposing figure looming over the other wrestlers. Her stern expression and rigid stance mirrored the unwavering ideology of the Cold War she represented. Beside her was Lt. Nikita Kalashnik, a young and wiry wrestler whose intense eyes seemed to see right through her opponents. Despite her lean frame, she held an air of strength and discipline that commanded respect. And flanking them both was Agent Valya, a seductive yet deadly force to be reckoned with. Her every move exuded confidence and danger, making it clear that she was not just another pretty face in this ruthless world of wrestling.

“…they are the… SOVIET BLOC!”

As they stood on the stage, the crowd fell silent, mesmerized by this formidable trio before them. All around us hung a heavy aura of power and dominance - a true embodiment of Soviet strength and control.

Agent Valya stepped into the limelight with her usual controlled poise. Her hands gripped the edges of a massive red banner and with Nikita’s help, opened the banner that was emblazoned with Ivan Stanislav's bold, Cyrillic name. Valya and Nikita raised the banner high, like a war standard before the charge as the crowd booed.

"Tonight," Valya's voice cut through the clamor, amplified and unyielding, "we honor Ivan Stanislav nd The Soviet Bloc will dominate Missouri Valley Wrestling just like Ivan has conquered PRIME!"

Heather took back the microphone and continued.  “And their opponents…”

Then… it began with an inhaled breath. Then, in a clear tone, a single note is sung. It’s the letter “I,” held like a beckoning call as the opening to Donna Summer’s epic ‘Love to Love You Baby’ oozed in sultry and seductive overtones over the PA system.

“Accompanied to the ring by Dawn McGill,” Heather continued, “Tammie Hardy… Savannah Smith… they are the QUEENS OF DESIRE!”

With a commanding presence, Dawn McGill glided down the ramp, followed by her three cabana boys who carried a piece of opulent furniture down to the ring with them.  Dawn gracefully climbed into the ring, her curves accentuated by a skin-tight, red halter top that left little to the imagination and a mini-skirt that barely reached her thighs. The air was charged with desire and anticipation as she smirked confidently in her four-inch heels, knowing that all eyes were gazing at her stunning figure tonight.

Backstage, Adam stood tall among the crew and equipment, his broad shoulders silhouetted against the glow of the entrance ramp. Beside him, Ginny scrunched her nose, an unspoken commentary on the spectacle they were about to witness.

“Don’t she really have to dress like that?” Ginny mumbled.

Adam didn’t answer as behind Dawn, the rest of The Queens of Desire materialized like visions from a fever dream. Tammie Hardy's long legs were accentuated by her high-cut wrestling leotard under a fishnet stocking, shimmering with sequins that flashed fire with every deliberate step. Her brown hair with purple highlights was styled in wild waves that seemed to match her untamed spirit. Savannah Smith followed suit, her outfit a mirror image in red, hugging her curves as if painted on by the hands of an artist fixated on temptation. Her dark eyes were filled with mischief and desire as she strutted towards the ring with confidence and grace.

And then Dawn’s daughter Victoria McGill made her regal entrance down the ramp to cheers and gasps from the crowd.  Tori’s imposing height accentuated the wavy blonde hair that flowed like liquid gold over her broad shoulders and the black strapless top covered by black fishnet she wore. She exuded power and dominance with every step, her piercing gaze sweeping over the fans as she sauntered down the ramp. Every inch of her oozed grace and poise, making it clear that she was a force to be reckoned with.

"Quite the show, isn't it?" Adam murmured, his voice barely audible above the music. His words were not meant to carry far, just a low rumble intended for Ginny's ears alone.

Ginny pressed her lips together, her arms crossed tightly over her chest—a shield against the sensuality on display. She wasn't thrilled with the overt theatrics and the scant clothing Dawn’s tag team wore, but she wasn't going to that spoil the evening. Just being with Adam, sharing in the world he loved, mattered more than her personal tastes.  Her fiery… and sometimes judgmental… gaze softened up as she glanced up at him, a silent acknowledgment of the compromise love sometimes required.

“Ain’t how I was brought up,” Ginny finally mumbled back.

Adam offered a small, reassuring smile. He understood her discomfort, and appreciated her presence all the more for it.

Ginny rolled her eyes watching Dawn's cabana boys set up an oasis of luxury ringside - a chaise lounger where Dawn reclined like wrestling royalty, her every whim attended with shoulder rubs, refreshing drinks, and soothing foot massages.

For the record… Ginny did thoroughly enjoy the attention Dawn’s cabana boys lavished on her a few weeks back.

After the Show After visiting a few of the MVW wrestlers backstage and talking with both owners (Ray McAvay and Joe Bergman) Adam and Ginny began to head for the exit.  Ginny was going to accompany him for the long drive down to Boone, North Carolina.  With Adam flying out early in the week for the PRIME show in Lisbon, he had to shoehorn in a television taping for Appalachian Mountain Championship Wrestling to cut a couple promos and then wrestle a squash match before he left the country.

Hand in hand, the couple nearly reached the door before…

“ADAMMMMMM!”

Adam and Ginny stopped and turned around to identify the source of the high-pitched feminine sound that still echoed around the back of the arena.

“Hey Victoria.”

Victoria McGill aka Tori- stood there, her Queens of Desire wrestling gear still clinging to her athletic frame, her presence magnetic as ever.

"Adam!" Tori greeted with a warm smile that reached her eyes, her tone light and friendly. "It's been too long."

"Tori," Adam replied, the soft twang of his Midwestern accent coloring his words. The corners of his mouth lifted in genuine pleasure. "You looked great out there tonight."

"Thanks." Tori brushed a stray lock of hair behind her ear, her demeanor casual. "You too, big guy.

Adam then gently brought Ginny up closer with a hand on her shoulder.  “I don’t know if you’ve ever been formally introduced.  Tori, this is my wife Ginny.”

“I think we’ve met before,” Victoria replied, “but it is good to see you again.”  Victoria shook Ginny’s hand.  “And congratulations on the baby.  When’s the due date?”

“Ah… August 15th,” Ginny cooly responded.

“Well… congratulations again.”  Victoria turned to Adam.  “And you… wishing you all the best in PRIME. I’m so happy for you. I know you’ve struggled a bit there but keep at it.  You can do it.  Good luck and keep going.”

Ginny watched the exchange with her arms folded across her chest. Though she stood close by, her presence was unobtrusive, allowing the old friends their moment of reunion.

Out of the corner of his eye, Adam noticed the dark glares directed their way. Svetlana, Nikita, and Agent Valya huddled together off to the side, their brooding stares locked onto him and Ginny. The sting of the loss to the Queens of Desire during the show left a definitive tension in the air around them. Valya's lips were a tight line, her earlier confidence replaced by cold frustration.

But he quickly returned his attention to Tori, offering her a parting handshake.

"Good luck out there," he said, respectful of the paths they both walked.

"Same to you," Tori responded, her grip firm yet friendly.

As Tori turned to leave, Adam placed an arm around Ginny, a protective gesture that spoke volumes.

"I’m fixin’ to leave," Ginny suggested, her Appalachian accent cutting through the quiet aftermath of the night's turmoil.

Adam nodded, feeling the weight of future confrontations, yet bolstered by the unwavering support by his side.  “Yeah, me too.  It’s going to be a long drive tonight.”

Together, they walked away from the ring, leaving the echoes of the crowd behind them and letting the tensions of the night melt away.

Monday June 10th – Bergman’s Barn – Plattin, Missouri The rustic scent of the barn mingled with the musk of determination as Adam Ellis settled into the dimly lit film room at Bergman's Barn. The flicker of the screen illuminated Dawn McGill, regal as ever on her chaise lounger. Cabana boys flitted around her like moths to a flame, their hands skillfully easing the tension from her shoulders and calves.

"Look, last week I stayed out of the Freeman match- even when Alexei Ruslan meddled- because you told me to let you take care of things."

Adam nodded silently, understanding the sacrifice. Dawn's penchant for ringside justice was well-known, and her restraint spoke volumes.

"Normally, I would have driven a steel-folding chair into Alexei's skull and trust me, I really wanted to do that," she confessed, a flash of fire in her eyes betraying the cool exterior.

"But you wanted to handle it yourself," Dawn continued, her tone softening, "and I stayed put.  You submitted Kenny and got the win over the Red Army." She leaned in closer, her presence commanding yet supportive. "That's how we stick it to Alexei and the Red Army… by beating one of their wrestlers.”

Adam's fingers drummed a steady rhythm on his knee, the tension palpable as he watched the video replay of his clash with Harley Walker back in March.

Dawn lounged regally on her chaise lounger, her piercing blue eyes locked on the footage while one cabana boy massaged her shoulders and another stood by, awaiting instruction.

"Here," Dawn commanded crisply, gesturing to a spot just above the small of her back. "A little lower." Her tone left no room for misunderstanding, and the boy complied immediately, his hands seeking out the source of tension beneath the surface of her sun-kissed skin.

"And you..." She turned her head slightly towards the other servant, her gaze never leaving the screen. "...focus on the arch of my foot. It's been a long day."

The cabana boy knelt, his fingers expertly tracing the contours of her foot, eliciting a satisfied sigh from Dawn. She sipped her drink, the ice clinking in unison with the cadence of Adam's nervous tapping.

"Adam, I want you to watch this part," Dawn commanded, pointing to the footage. Her blue eyes were locked onto the screen where Adam deftly avoided a charging Harley Walker.

"Nice save," she remarked as the image of Adam ducking under a spear filled the frame. He could almost feel the whoosh of air again as his past self narrowly escaped the devastating impact.

"Then you hit that baseball slide. Crisp. Precise." She sipped her drink, a small nod of approval escaping her lips as the action replayed. Adam had slid face-first toward Walker, his boots connecting squarely with the wrestler's rugged features.

"Followed by a snap suplex that nearly nailed the pinfall. You had him, Adam." Her voice held a trace of excitement, even pride, as the scene unfolded.

Adam watched intently, his brow furrowing as he revisited each move. He felt a twinge of regret remembering how close he'd come to victory. But then the tape rolled forward to the turning point.

"Here's where it slipped away," Dawn sighed, her expression clouding over. The screen showed Walker gaining the upper hand, momentum shifting like a swinging pendulum.

Adam watched himself struggle to regain footing, only for the moment to be interrupted by Dawn's calculated distraction- her attempt to intervene by locking lips with Elvis Nixon at ringside. The memory caused Adam's cheeks to color slightly, but Dawn just rolled her eyes.

"For the record, Elvis Nixon was no Clark Gable," she quipped dryly, a wry smile dancing on her lips despite the somber mood. "And I took my eye off the ball. Never should have done that."

Walker's finishing move, the Cannonball Run, played in slow motion, the inevitable conclusion to a hard-fought match. Adam's shoulders were pinned to the mat; the referee's hand slapped the canvas three times. It was a bitter pill to swallow.

"Should've been our win," Dawn muttered, accepting a refill from one of her attendants without breaking her gaze from the screen. Resolute, she turned back to Adam. "But we move forward.  Look, you stopped the losing streak at ReVival 49. Now we build on it."

The words were heavy with intent—a battle plan laid bare in the space between them.

Adam leaned forward, elbows on his knees, absorbing her every word. A highlight reel of his missed opportunities played out before him, each move scrutinized under Dawn's discerning eye.

"Remember this?" she pointed at a moment where Adam had executed a textbook counter, wrenching control of the match from Walker's grasp. "You had him in check here. You knew his game, anticipated his moves."

Adam nodded, the memory vivid in his mind. He had felt the tide turning then, the surge of confidence as he dominated the ring... only to falter when it mattered most.

"This time," Dawn continued, her voice firm yet encouraging, "you need to finish the job. No hesitation, no second-guessing. You've got the raw talent, the resilience… you just need to keep that pressure, relentless until the bell rings."

She paused, giving Adam a moment to visualize, to commit to the strategy they were forging together. Dawn's confidence in him was evident, a beacon guiding him through the fog of previous missteps.

"Harley Walker is tough," she acknowledged, "but you're tougher. You know what he's going to bring to the table now. Use that intel and turn it against him."

Adam rose, the determination etched into the lines of his face. He towered over the cabana boys, a colossus of focused energy ready to redeem himself in the squared circle.

"I will," he promised, his voice carrying the subtle twang of his Midwestern roots. His eyes burned with the promise of victory, the desire to not only avenge his loss but to assert his place in the wrestling pantheon.

"Good," Dawn said with a nod, finally shifting her gaze to meet his. "I expect nothing less. The next match wouldn't just be a fight… it’s going to be your statement, written in sweat and determination across the canvas of the ring, that Adam Ellis is going to be a force in PRIME."

Early Tuesday Morning – Holiday Inn Express- Boone, North Carolina The neon digits of the bedside clock glowed 2:37 AM, mocking Adam Ellis's sleepless plight. Boone's quiet night hummed faintly beyond the window, while inside the Holiday Inn Express room, Ginny's steady breathing was a soft rhythm in the darkness. Lying motionless under the covers, she seemed at peace with dreams that adamantly refused to visit Adam.

Tired and worn out after successfully defending the AMCW title against the legendary Mr. Gas, Adam’s eyes opened wide, adrenalin coursing through his body and making it impossible to fall asleep.  He swung his legs over the edge of the bed, careful not to disturb his slumbering wife, and sat up—a hulking silhouette against the sparse light filtering through the curtains. His mind grappled with the flight to Lisbon, Portugal looming just hours away, the weight of anticipation crushing down on him.

ReVival 50. The name of the event reverberated through his thoughts like the roar of an expectant crowd. Harley Walker awaited him there, a formidable opponent who would stop at nothing to claim victory over him for a second time. Adam's fingers curled into fists as he envisioned standing across the ring from Harley, the tension taut between them as a pulled muscle.

The recent win over Kenny Freeman had been a much-needed boost, a testament to the sweat and sacrifice poured into every punishing session at the gym. Yet, even with that victory etched in his record, doubt was an ever-present adversary, whispering from the shadows of success. Could he really make it two in a row?

Adam ran a hand through his hair, his fingers brushing the familiar twinge of anxiety. Wrestling wasn't just about physical strength or technique; it was also mental warfare, a battle of wills played out on a canvas of blood, sweat, and cheers. He knew too well the seductive pull of that darker side of the sport—the lengths some would go for glory.

But Adam Ellis was different. He aimed to be more than just another wrestler; he strived to be a beacon—a man of integrity inside and outside the ring. He wanted to stand tall for Ginny, for the fans, for himself. As a gentle giant among men driven by ego and ambition, he had something to prove.

In the stillness of the hotel room, with the pressure of ReVival 50 barreling toward him like an unstoppable force, Adam made a silent vow. No matter the cost, no matter the temptation, he would remain true to who he was. Win or lose, he wouldn't stray down that treacherous path where honor was sacrificed for fame.

"Adam?" Ginny's voice, tinged with sleep and concern, broke through his reverie.

"Sorry, Gin, didn't mean to wake you," he whispered, his Midwestern drawl softer in the dark.

"Baby, you need your sleep." Her Kentucky lilt wrapped around him like a warm blanket.

Adam squeezed her hand, finding solace in the certainty of her grip. Yes, tomorrow he would board a flight that would take him… once again… over the Atlantic Ocean to Europe.  Yes, Friday night at ReVival 50, he’d have to step into the ring against a man who’d defeated him before.  Yes, Adam was a long way away from where he wanted to be in PRIME.

But tonight, he had Ginny's unwavering belief in him to armor him against the doubts. And that was worth more than any championship belt.

“Good night, Ginny.  I love you.”

“Love you too."
