I hate talking.

You ever notice how two men can walk into the same room and not be standing in the same place at all?

Funny thing.

Same ring.

Same ropes.

Same bell.

Same crowd.

But not the same world.

I been reading about you, Kenny.

Trying to understand what sort of man I'm about to stand across from.

And I think I figured it out.

For you this is a show.

Not in the sense that it's fake.

Not in the way people outside this business mean it.

I mean a show.

A spectacle.

A story.

An adventure.

Another chapter.

Another chance to prove something.

Another chance to find out who Kenny Freeman is.

You got friends.

You got rivals.

You got history.

You got people cheering for you.

People booing you.

People invested in what happens next.

You walk through that curtain and the world opens up.

Another episode.

Another page.

Another story to tell.

And maybe that's the way it's supposed to be.

Maybe that's healthy.

Maybe that's normal.

Hell, maybe I'm the broken one.

Probably.

But when I walk through that curtain?

I don't see any of that.

I don't see a story.

I don't see an adventure.

I don't see an opportunity.

I see a fight.

That's all I've ever seen.

People talk about wrestling like it's some grand dream.

Like it's magic.

Like it's destiny.

I never understood that.

When I was a kid, people didn't fight because they loved it.

They fought because somebody was drunk.

Because somebody was angry.

Because somebody wanted something.

Because somebody was bigger.

Because somebody was cruel.

And if you couldn't handle it, you got hurt.

Real simple.

Somewhere along the way everybody else learned how to separate fighting from living.

I never did.

For me they're still the same thing.

Every payday I've ever had came from proving I could survive something another man couldn't.

Every lesson I've ever learned came with blood attached to it.

Every scar I got taught me something.

And eventually you stop asking whether you're enjoying it.

You just keep moving.

You keep surviving.

That's the difference between us, Kenny.

You walk into Revival looking for another story.

I walk into Revival looking for another paycheck.

You see possibility.

I see necessity.

You see a destination.

I see a bump in the road.

Just another thing standing between where I am and where I need to be.

And that's not an insult.

It's the truth.

Because after the bell rings and the crowd goes home and the lights get shut off, you'll still have your stories.

You'll still have your dreams.

You'll still have whatever comes next.

Me?

I'll be doing what I've always done.

Moving.

Fighting.

Surviving.

The world keeps trying to kill a man in little ways.

Rent.

Pain.

Age.

Bad habits.

Bad luck.

Loneliness.

Disappointment.

You learn to fight those things long enough and eventually another wrestler doesn't feel all that important.

That's what makes this difficult.

Because I think this matters to you.

And I don't know if it matters to me at all.

Not beyond the paycheck.

Not beyond the violence.

Not beyond getting through another night.

For you this is part of the story.

For me it's Tuesday.

And that's a dangerous thing to stand across from.

A man with nothing to prove is dangerous.

But a man with nothing left to believe in?

That's worse.
